Webb's First Deep Field – a window into the beginning of time.
The image of SMACS 0723, captured by the James Webb Telescope, reveals thousands of distant galaxies in a single photograph with breathtaking detail.
Some of these specks of light have been travelling towards us for over 13 billion years, giving us a direct glimpse into the infancy of the Universe. The gravitational lenses in the image distort light like cosmic mirrors, amplifying objects too distant to be seen otherwise.
